Bangui - "Who benefits from the violence against the Church'" this is what the Bishops of the Central African Republic officially ask in a statement in which they denounce the killing, on June 29, of Mgr. Firmin Gbagoua, Vicar General of the diocese of Bambari .
"It was evidently a murder aimed at those who denounce armed groups", said His Exc. Mgr. Nestor Désiré Nongo-Aziagbia, Bishop of Bossangoa and Vice President of the Central African Episcopal Conference. "Don Firmin was a person in search of dialogue among the communities involved in the violence".
The Bishops thus confirm the first impressions to Agenzia Fides by local sources, according to whom a campaign is underway to silence the voices of dialogue in the Central African Republic, affecting in particular the priests most committed to the search for peace . The Central African Episcopal Conference has also denounced the hate propaganda launched by a self-proclaimed "League for the defense of the Church in Central Africa", which incites Christians to seek revenge for the death of priests in order to attack the Muslim populations . This is precisely the opposite of what the priests killed lived and preached in life and an offense and a betrayal of their sacrifice.
